How to turn a breeched baby with Yoga’s help

Breeched babies are very common and many turn in the last few weeks.  Here are some useful yoga tips that can help move baby back into an optimal position for labour.  When you feel your baby is awake and on the move try the following poses.  If you found other ways that have turned your breeched baby we’d love to hear so please pop up a comment and share the knowledge!

 1.     Lying Flat with hips elevated and knees bent – as the weight of the baby is off the pelvis and cervix.

 2.     Downward Dog – come onto all 4s, curl the toes under and lift up into downward dog.  Hold for a few breaths.  Once baby has turned avoid this pose for the rest of your pregnancy

3.     Puppy dog pose (butt up child’s pose) – come onto all 4s, resting your forehead towards the ground or on your arms/pillow, keeping your bum pointing up towards the ceiling.

 4.     Supported bridge pose – lie on your back with feet hip width apart. Knees bent and facing to the ceiling. Push into your feet so your pelvis lifts up to ceiling. Hold for 3 – 5 breaths and come down. Repeat 3 times if comfortable enough.

5.     Cat/Cow pose – coming onto all 4s, on an inhale lengthen the spine looking straight ahead (do not dip the lower back), exhale round the spine

6.     AVOID squatting – as it opens the outlet of the pelvis and invites the baby to wedge itself deeper inside

7.     Relaxation – when we relax the abdomen relaxes creating more space for the baby to move.  I have a 15 minute Yoga Nidra/deep relaxation recorded on an earlier blog  https://theyogatree.ie/uncategorized/yoga-nidra-the-power-of-yoga-sleep/

8.     Ice at the top of the uterus as the baby will be likely to move away from the coldness.  Music or light down at the pelvic opening since babies will move towards music and light

Happy Yogining and good luck moving your little one into an optimal position 🙂
